Fidel Castro and his daughter Alina

Fidel Castro, too, has a daughter. She is about the same age as Miriam.

Fidel Castro's daughter Alina Fernandez Revuelta is born in 1956. After dropping out of medical and business studies she works as a model. In the mid-1980's she translates Russian texts for her father and not only dares to discuss politics with him but also to disagree. She wants to leave Cuba. Only in 1991 will Fidel allow his daughter to emigrate.

On the occasion of Castro's visit to the United Nations' anniversary assembly in New York in October 1995 Alina attacks her father's politics in the U.S. media. In the film we see CNN reporter Bernard Shaw asking Fidel Castro about his daughter and what his feelings are towards her. Fidel Castro, who normally has an answer to every question, politely asks to be spared having to reply to this one.
